Threads Continues to Lead the Download Charts in October

Vanity Socials Team

Despite the increasingly popular social media app Threads having notably gained traction over the past months, the gap between it and the dominant app X is far from being covered. According to Appfigures, Threads was the most downloaded app on iOS in October and September, witnessing a significant upward trajectory in the rankings. As it stands, Threads boasts a user base of 275 million. However, not all downloads necessarily imply active users as many may have downloaded the app out of curiosity, which does not directly translate to usage momentum. As per Meta's official reports, Threads gained 100 million more users in the three months preceding October. Additionally, IG's chief Adam Mosseri recently revealed an increase of 15 million sign-ups in November. This suggests that while Threads may have surpassed 300 million users, it has to double its user base to match up to X's 500 million monthly active users. Threats to Threads' growth are also imminent with the advent of Bluesky, which presents a greener pasture for Twitter cast-offs looking for a new social media home. Despite its underwhelming 20 million overall actives, Bluesky can still potentially affect Threads' momentum. Meanwhile, the Elon Musk-owned X is reportedly experiencing a mass exodus of users following the U.S. election given Musk's contribution to President-elect Trump's campaign. While this is not officially confirmed yet as X hasn't updated its user stats since July, Appfigures ranks X at 38 on its App Store chart, indicative of a possible decline. Furthermore, debates about broader influence and relevance continue since Threads, despite its promising rise, is still considered less influential than X and is 200 million active users away from challenging the latter. With the upcoming second term for Trump and his newfound alliance with Musk, X could potentially secure its position as a key communication tool for policy decisions, making it even more relevant. So, while Threads is evidently growing, it may not dethrone X soon, despite more users being open to trying out Meta's latest social app.
