X Tests File Attachments for DMs
Users of X may soon enjoy enhanced Direct Messaging functions, as tests within the app suggest plans to include a file attachment feature. This would expand the existing DM options that include Photos, Videos, and GIFs. iOS and Android code strings for this new feature reportedly already includes references to DM attachments, indicating an imminent expansion. Positioning X as an "everything app", where users can carry out regular tasks from a single platform, the added file attachment feature would significantly strengthen its messaging capabilities, making it a more effective communication tool. An assertion by Elon Musk, owner of X, in September disclosed plans to separate DMs from public posts within the app to allow users the convenience of using the platform solely for messaging. In light of this, the file attachment functionality seems a logical progression, increasing the platform's overall messaging utility. Despite facing some hiccups, including delays in its payments expansion due to licensing issues in New York, X continues to add various features and improvements. Earlier in the year, it incorporated voice and video calls, and in September, editing DMs was also added. Complementing these additions is the separation of DMs from the main app, illustrating significant steps towards increasing app usage. While there is no word yet on a live test or release date, the pace of X's rollouts suggests the feature could launch soon, potentially limited to X Premium subscribers initially.
